The Canadian Eskimo Dog Club Of Great Britain

The Canadian Eskimo Dog Club of Great Britain was formed in 2008. The Canadian Eskimo Dog is slowly growing in popularity in the UK at the moment, but numbers still remain small. A small group of enthusiasts got together to form a club for the Canadian Eskimo Dog in the UK. The Club is growing and we already organise a yearly Breed Open Show and get involved with organising small working events. At the moment there are several championship and open dog shows that have breed specific classes for the Canadian Eskimo Dog, the biggest of these being Crufts. There are also several working organisations in the UK where you can work your Canadian Eskimo Dog. These are listed under the working section of the links page of the website. The Club aim to promote the breed in the UK, Europe and worldwide, to encourage people to show and work their CED/CID's. To give people information, guidance and help with their CED/CID or to educate about the breed. These dogs are a very primitive, high energy dog more suited to people with an outdoor lifestyle or those wishing to work their dogs and should not be considered as a pet. We are already working on gaining full recognition with the FCI thus to make it possible to show in countries governed by the FCI. We already have the Irish Kennel Club accepting registrations for us so you can show there, as well as in NON FCI catergories in countries such as Croatia. Membership is encouraged for everyone interested in this rare breed, even if you do not own a CED/CID. Members will receive a quarterly newsletter, have the committee of the club to approach for a wealth of advice and knowledge and have an active involvement with the Kennel Club including educational events and breed health symposiums. Please forward any information, pictures, stories or results to either our secretary or newsletter writer. (Contact details can be found on the committee members page as to who to contact).

We invite all CED owners to please complete our health survey. This information is vital for preservation of health in the breed not just now but for forthcoming generations.

We also have an upcoming breed seminar to learn more about the breed, it's history and if required further judging guidance.

📣Update!📣

The criteria for this study is slightly different for the CEDs, the dogs you complete the questionnaire for do not need to reside in your house they will accept entries from dogs who live outside.

They are more interested in their vocals than where they sleep so let’s try and get as many dogs included as we can!

📣Calling all Canadian Eskimo Dog Owners 📣

Can you help? Tell us about your dog’s vocal behaviour!

You might have seen on the Channel 4’s coverage of Crufts an interview with Prof Katie Slocombe and Ella Williamson about dog vocal behaviour. These researchers from the University of York would love to understand how individuals and breeds differ in their vocal behaviour and so have asked us to share this:

“We are interested in how flexibly dogs use their vocalisations in terms of the number of different situations they vocalise in and the type of vocalisations they produce in those situations. To understand how the vocal behaviour of more ancient breeds may be different from more modern breeds we need lots of owners of ancient breeds, such as Canadian Eskimo Dogs, to tell us about their dogs (there are far fewer ancient breeds and they are much rarer than many modern breeds, so we particularly need your help to ensure the ancient breeds are well represented!).

To help us better understand dog vocal behaviour we would be very grateful if you could complete our short 10-20 minute online questionnaire by visiting https://york.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0j1StGatgH03Xv0 or www.vocaldog.org
To be eligible to participate, you need to be 18 years or above and own a dog who lives in the house with you.”
